THIS SATURDAY IS THE BIG DAY if you’re interested in the latest in information technology and development. And even better — it’s all free! The third-annual Houston TechFest is Saturday, September 26, at University of Houston’s main campus from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. You’ll get the chance to choose from more than 70 technical sessions covering all kinds of topics: Java, .Net, iPhone development, SharePoint, Windows 7.0, and more. Microsoft’s Sam Gazitt, product manager for Visual Studio 2010, will keynote the conference. Free online registration takes place through Wednesday, September 23. Then attendees must register onsite the day of the event. With more 1,000 expected attendees, Houston TechFest is a great place to network while learning about new technology. Click here for the jam-packed agenda. The complete speaker line-up is covered here. Lots of prizes in the raffle, too, including two Acer netbooks! Houston TechFest is the place for IT folks — and IT wanna-be’s, too!

The only downside is the presentations are geared toward Microsoft products. I had secretly hoped for some of the more exciting technologies to be represented and not just the sweatshop stuff.
Each to their own, of course. I’ll just secretly wish they had named the event Houston Microsoft TechFest.
They are having difficulty with the registration.
They were buying lunch for the first 600 attendees, but they are now at 1,100 plus.
