Lasagna House — This local restaurant is the spot for lasagna! Get half-priced lasagna all day at The Lasagna House July 29. Valid at Memorial and Sugar Land Town Square. {The 1960/I-45 location is temporarily closed due to a fire last week in the shopping center.}

Spaghetti Warehouse — Get a free appetizer at Spaghetti Warehouse July 27-August 2 with purchase of two lasagnas. This is located at 901 Commerce.

VertsKebap Opens July 18 with Free Food

verts energy corridorVertsKebap is opening its 8th Houston location this weekend. This fast casual restaurant from Austin built its concept around the döner kepab, Germany’s favorite street food.

VertsKebap opens July 18 at its Grand Opening on Katy Freeway, 11 am – 8 pm. Don’t miss free food all day (one full-size entree per person), with live DJ music and more. The new location is at 19355 Katy Freeway at Greenhouse Road behind Chick-fil-A.

Never been to VertsKebap? You’re in for a treat! The kebap is similar to a panini-pressed sandwich filled with vertically roasted meats, veggies, and yogurt-based sauces.

Folks who visit one of Chick-fil-A’s 1,700+ locations July 14 in a fully-dressed cow costume (“head to hoof”) will get a free combo meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner). Kids will get a free kid’s meal when fully dressed. Folks in “partial cow attire,” such as vest, hat or purse, will receive a free entree, so that’s still a good deal! Free Breakfast, Lunch at Houston Schools in Summer

free summer meals houstonHouston kids can eat a free breakfast and lunch all summer, thanks to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program. This freebie is a win-win for all since it provides free healthy meals for kids ages 1-18 and helps parents save money. Proof of income, paperwork or registration is not required to enjoy this benefit. Parents pay a minimal fee to eat with their child per meal, depending on location.

The master search site for free summer meals is available online. Search by your zip code to find sites in your area. Here are a few school district links to start:

  • Aldine ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here for the 50 participating locations.
  • Alief ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here. Times vary by location.
  • Conroe ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here for the eight locations.
  • CyFair ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18 June 15-July 30 at most sites. Check the list online here for the 26 participating school locations. Families do not need to be enrolled in the district to get the free summer meals. Hours vary by location.
  • Deer Park ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here.
  • Houston ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available June 3 – July 17 for children 1-18. Search the list online here for the 200 participating school locations.
  • Humble ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here.
  • Katy ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here for the six participating school locations. Free meals begin the week of June 15.
  • Pasadena ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here. More than 20 schools are participating. At most locations, free meals operate through June 25.
  • Spring ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here. Fifteen schools are participating. Free meals operate through mid-July.
  • Spring Branch ISD: Free breakfast and lunch are available for children 1-18. Check the list online here. Nineteen schools are participating. Hours vary by location.

Free Donuts June 5 for National Donut Day

National Donut DayNational Donut Day is the first Friday of June, which means free donuts Friday, June 5.

Dunkin’ Donuts is giving away a free donut of choice with purchase of any beverage all day June 5. Find locations online here.

Shipley Do-Nuts is giving away a free glazed donut June 5 from 5 am until noon. A portion of store sales June 5 will benefit The Salvation Army.

Folks in Houston can participate in a donut eating contest at 6 am and 7 am June 5 at Shipley’s at 14135 NW Freeway location only. Contestants are chosen on first-come, first-served basis. Winner will receive a pair of Houston Dynamo tickets for June 5 game. Find participating Houston-area locations online.

Krispy Kreme has not opened yet in Houston, but they are participating, too, if you travel to a city with one. Get a free doughnut of your choice!
