It’s my favorite event each year! Experience Houston’s fabulous Theater District completely free! August 26 marks the 19th annual Theater District Open House featuring Houston’s nine performing arts organizations in the downtown Theater District. The four venues open for backstage tours and performances feature Wortham Theater Center, Alley Theater, Jones Hall, and Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Catch a sneak peek of upcoming seasons through live performances, meet-n-greet with costumed performers, free trolley rides, dress-up trunk, and backstage tours. Find the complete schedule online here.
Don’t miss the free Houston Symphony concert at Jones Hall beginning at 4 pm with a sneak peek of the upcoming season including Theme from Jurassic Park and Overture to West Side Story.
This is a perfect family-friendly event, too. Kids will love the arts & crafts and Instrument Petting Zoo at Wortham Center, Peter Pan clinics and an over-the top costume trunk at Hobby Center thanks to TUTS, face painting and a costume trunk at Alley Theatre, and free Houston Ballet performances and meet-n-greet with costumed Houston Ballet characters at Wortham Theater Center.
The bonus I love about participating in Theater District Day is taking advantage of discount ticket offers for the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, TUTS, and all the others. Check out the one-day discount theater offers online here.
