THIS SEEMS ALMOST TOO GOOD to be true! As part of the Young Eagles program, volunteer pilots give kids ages 8-17 a free flight in an airplane. Pilots also involve the kids in the pre-flight inspection and teach them about the instrument panel, aeronautical chart, and parts of the plane. The flight lasts about 15 or 20 minutes long.
The Young Eagles program is powered by volunteer pilots in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) who aim to encourage an interest in aviation in children. More than one million children have enjoyed free flights through the Young Eagles program, thanks to 41,000 volunteer pilots. There are two participating volunteer pilots in the Houston area with many others throughout Texas and the United States.
