Free and $1 Summer Movies in Houston

We are well into the summer schedule for free and $1 movies for kids this summer. Have you checked out one of these family-friendly flicks? Here are some free and cheap movie festivals offered this summer in Houston, including the newly added MFAH Reel Kids:

MFAH Reel Kids Summer Matinees: Enjoy MFAH Reel Kids at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston with international animated, family-friendly movies on the big screen Thursdays, 2 pm. The museum is free all day Thursdays (10 am – 9 pm), and movies are free, too. June 28 features Summer Wars (Japanese, 2009) dubbed in English.

Summer Movie Express at Edwards Houston Marq*e 23: Catch these family-friendly flicks for $1 every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 am this summer. All movies are rated G and PG. Adventures of Tin Tin and Puss in Boots are the movies next Tuesday and Wednesday, July 3-4. Regal’s Edwards Marq*e is located at 7600 Katy Freeway.

Children’s Summer Series at Studio Movie Grill: Kids are only $1 at Studio Movie Grill’s Children’s Summer Series. Catch the 11 am show Monday through Friday through August 20 week.  Both Copperfield and CityCentre locations are participating.  Watch Bee Movie this week and How to Train Your Dragon next week. Adults are $2 to the 11 am show.

Free Family Film Festival at Rave Cinemas: Free movies twice a week Mondays and Thursdays at 10 am for nine weeks of free family films. Happy Feet Two is showing June 28, and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is July 2 and July 5. Rave Yorktown 15 is located at 15900 Yorktown Crossing Blvd. (77084).

Free Summer Movies at Santikos Theatres: Catch a free movie for six weeks this summer at Silverado 19 IMAX in Tomball on Hwy. 249.  The Summer Movie Series shows free movies Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 am. There are no movies next week for week of July 4, but Rio is showing July 10 and 11.

Summer Movie Clubhouse at Cinemark:  Movies are just $1 weekday mornings at many Houston-area Cinemark locations. Or get 10 movies for only $5 paid in advance. Tinseltown 290 features Wednesday morning shows at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 4. Cypress 12 features Tuesday and Wednesday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3-4. Katy Cinemark 19 features Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3-5. The Woodlands Cinemark 17 features Wednesday and Thursday movies at 10 am. Kung Fu Panda is showing June 27-28, and Despicable Me is showing July 4-5. The Woodlands at Market Street features Tuesday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3. Cinemark at Pearland features Tuesday and Wednesday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3-4. Cinemark Rosenberg 12 features Tuesday and Wednesday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3-4. Webster Cinemark 18 features Tuesday movies at 10 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3. Pasadena Hollywood 20 features Tuesday and Wednesday movies at 9:30 am. Despicable Me is showing July 3-4.

Alamo Kids Camp at Alamo Drafthouse: Catch a free movie each weekday at 11 am through July 28. Short Circuit is showing this week (June 27-30), and How to Train Your Dragon is July 2-July 6. All screenings are free, but seating is first-come, first-serve. This is for the Mason Park location in Katy.

AMC Theaters’ Summer MovieCamp: AMC will no longer offer Summer MovieCamp. It will offer family movies throughout the summer before noon at value prices.
