ANOTHER weekend is upon us… Lots of free fun in Houston to enjoy with family and friends. Here is just a snapshot:
Celebrate on the Bayou — Join the KBR Kid’s Day at Buffalo Bayou this Saturday, June 5, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The festivities include boat rides on the Bayou, hands-on educational activities, musical performers, and a scavenger hunt. The event is held at Sabine Street and Walker-Sabine.
Delight in dance — It’s an evening of Sizzling Summer Dance this Friday, June 4, at 8:30 p.m. at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Houston Metropolitan Dance performs season favorites and two new works. Miller Outdoor is located in Hermann Park.
Polka with the accordions — The Accordion Kings and Queens extravaganza is free at Miller Outdoor Theatre, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. This accordion music festival features nearly 100 accordion players performing Czech, German, Cajun, Zydeco and more.
Buy local — The First Saturday Arts Market continues in the Heights this Saturday, June 5. Note the new summer hours are 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. for Cool Summer Nights.
Mingle at free museums — First weekend of the month means Target Free First Sundays at Museum of Fine Arts, the Children’s Museum of Houston, and Bank of America’s free admission for “Museums on Us” program. The Museum of Fine Arts theme this month is Arts of India, including stories and symbols in art in India. Free movie screenings based on Leo Lionni’s storybook’s Swimmy, Frederick, Fish is Fish, and It’s Mine.
