The National Park Service turns 97 years old August 25 — and is celebrating with free admission to all of its 401 national parks. Actually 268 of the 401 national parks are free every day!
Texas is home to several national parks, preserves, and historic sites that are offering free admission: Big Bend National Park, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and Padre Island National Seashore. Find the listing online.
Free and discount annual passes are available for the military and seniors. Folks over age 62 can purchase a Senior Pass for $10 that provides lifetime membership to National Parks. Military can get a free annual pass, and the public can purchase an annual pass for $80 for those who like to travel all year. Get more info online here.
