Take advantage of these pet-related specials from BARC Animal Shelter and Houston SPCA if you’re interested in bringing a new dog or cat into your home.

BARC Animal Shelter is extending its Tailgate Adoption promotion through Friday, September 14, thanks to the recent Houston Texans win: adopt a dog for $20, a cat for $10 or PurrFured Pets for free. As I previously posted, BARC is one of 50 shelters in the country competing to win the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge — and the only one in Houston. For BARC, it will take 2,100 dog and cat adoptions to win the $100,000 grand prize grant, 300 more adoptions than August – October last year. Its current adoption count stands at 867! BARC is closed Mondays and Thursdays for adoptions but open noon – 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday through Sunday.

Houston SPCA is offering $5 adoptions for felines this weekend, September 14-16. The adoption value is around $400 with all the exams, shots, and such. Houston SPCA is located at 900 Portway, and open 7 days a week with weekend hours from 11 am – 7 pm Friday and 10 am – 6 pm Saturday and Sunday.
