{Updated} Family-Friendly New Year’s Eve 2013 in Houston

UPDATED: It’s almost time to usher in the New Year! Have you made your plans? There are a variety of free and cheap options — including many family-friendly events to kick off 2013. Here are a few New Year’s options around Houston:

art car glowDiscovery Green: {Note: This event is rain or shine…} Houston’s official New Year’s Eve event, New Year’s Eve Houston, is full of family-friendly activities featuring an illuminated Art Car parade, ice skating till midnight, Kids Zone, free photo booth, disco lawn, and fireworks off the roof of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Don’t miss the live music performances including KC and the Sunshine Band celebrating his 40th anniversary. The fun begins at 7 pm through 12:30 am December 31. Families with young children celebrate early with a 9:00 pm kid’s confetti countdown complete with streamers, glitter, noisemakers, and more! Check out the complete schedule online. childrens museum NYEChildren’s Museum of Houston: New Year’s Noon Bash is a daytime party just for kids December 31! The annual event is complete with a countdown, brilliant ball drop and parade featuring a New Orleans-style brass band. The parade begins at 11:30 am and the countdown to noon begins at 11:45 am. Admission is $9 for all, which includes the Noon Bash and after party with DJ Zin. Kids can even make LED New Year’s glasses, crazy hat and noisemaker to bring in the New Year. CityCentre: Celebrate New Year’s Eve at CityCentre. The free event kicks off at 7 pm with a DJ on the plaza December 31 and ends with fireworks at midnight. CityCentre is located at 800 Town & Country Blvd.

NYE 2013Sugar Land: The City of Sugar Land is hosting two different New Year’s celebrations to kick off 2013. The Children’s Celebration lasts from 7 pm – 9 pm with a fireworks finale. The adult party kicks off at 9:30 pm featuring live music, entertainment, and more fireworks. Don’t miss the 3D Midnight Sugar Cube Drop. This celebration is located at Sugar Land Town Square.

Radio Disney: The Radio Disney crew is kicking off Noon Year’s Eve December 31 from 10 am – 2 pm at Mall of the Mainland in Texas City. This is one of many events hosted by local Radio Disney stations across the country for family-friendly New Year’s fun. The event will feature the best songs of the year from Radio Disney’s “Top 50 of 2012,” interactive entertainment hosted by Radio Disney 1590 Road Crew and prizes. Mall of the Mainland is located at 10000 Emmett Lowery Expressway.

The Woodlands Children’s Museum: It’s a noon-time countdown December 31 at the The Woodlands Children’s Museum. Kids can make New Year’s hats and art projects, listen to Tom’s Fun Band, and enjoy a bubble wrap dance. Celebrate with a balloon and confetti drop at noon. Free with $5 admission.
