The weather is finally cooling off in Houston, just in time to celebrate the brave men and women in your life with some Veterans Day events! There are lots of exciting events taking place on Thursday and the upcoming weekend, so why not commemorate our military heroes while making the most of what the city has to offer? These events are all either discounted or free for veterans.

1. Veterans Day BOGO at Kemah Boardwalk

Beautiful weather calls for the beach and an amusement park, all in one. Bring the whole family to Kemah Boardwalk for rides, games, and the best seafood around.  Veterans get a special buy one, get one free deal on All Day Ride Passes this Veterans Day. Limit one ticket per discount, valid I.D. required.

2. Veterans Week at National Museum of Funeral History

As the NMFH’s motto goes, “Any day above ground is a good one.” Honor the fallen by visiting one of Houston’s most multi-faceted museums, the National Museum of Funeral History. With 16 permanent exhibits featuring the relics of American presidents, celebrities, and funerary traditions from different cultures, a visit to this museum is sure to entertain and intrigue. 
When: Thursday, November 11 to Sunday, November 14 (times vary) 
Where: National Museum of Funeral History at 415 Barren Springs Drive, Houston, TX 77090
How much: Free admission for veterans and active military. Tickets are $10.

3. Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Celebration

This parade starts downtown at 11:30 a.m., but for the full patriotic experience be sure to come early. At 10 a.m. a respected keynote speaker will honor our local heroes and there will be a moment of silence held for the 101st anniversary of the ending of World War I.  
When: Thursday, November 11, starting at 10 a.m.

4. Veterans Day at B.B. Lemon

For one of our more intimate Veterans Day events, how about a complimentary three-course meal at B.B. Lemon, known for their classic American cuisine and cocktails? The comforting ambiance of this cozy eatery awaits. Veterans and active military eat for free, while their guests dine for $25 per person. 
When: Thursday, November 11, starting at 10 a.m.
Where: 1809 Washington Avenue, Houston, TX 77007
How much: Veterans and active military eat free. $25 per guest. 

5. The Woodlands Veterans Day Tribute at Town Green Park

Check out the annual Veterans Day Tribute at Town Green in the Woodlands.  Although it’s one of the shortest Veterans Day events in the Houston area, with a presentation of colors, a keynote speech, and music included in the lineup for the evening, it packs a punch. Guests will have a chance to see high school students as they get sworn in for their career in the military. There will also be a charity drop-off for care packages to be delivered to active members of the military.
When: Thursday, November 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

6. Buffalo Soldiers National Museum Presents Mixology Class: Military Cocktail Edition (Online)

For a chance to honor all veterans, including the ones often forgotten in our study of history, tune in to the Buffalo Soldier Museum‘s virtual mixology class. Learn how to mix military cocktails from the comfort of your own home with the help of master mixologist Rasheed Sidney. There will also be a virtual Veterans Day commemoration event from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Facebook. In addition, veterans will get into the museum for free all day, and civilians will get free entry from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

7. Artists in Arms Presents All the World a Stage at Smither Park

For anyone on the lookout for family-friendly Veterans Day events, Artists in Arms is staging a series of scenes from Shakespeare for free with a cast entirely made up of veterans. The scenes are ones that resonate with veteran experiences, chosen because veterans themselves love them. This event will be free to the public and take place in Smither Park, a creative urban space known for found-material sculptures and mosaics. Make sure to bring your own seat!

8. Salute to the Troops Veterans Day Bash at Little Woodrow’s Tomball

Who doesn’t want to party at Little Woodrow’s with beer and live music? Join their Veterans Day Bash and enjoy a night filled with Karbach specials and tunes by native east Texan, award-winning singer Cody Wayne. If you’re in the mood to give, you can even take part in an Adopt-A-Soldier program. 

When: Thursday, November 11, at 7 p.m.

9. Veterans Bike Show at Mancuso Harley-Davidson Crossroads

There’s nothing more American than a little friendly competition. Mancuso Harley-Davidson Crossroads is hosting a car and motorbike show and fun run, with prizes awarded to the top three contest winners. You won’t want to miss this adrenaline-fueled event! Don’t forget to bring the family along for the food trucks and bounce house. 

When: Saturday, November 13th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

10. Veterans Day Walk at Pearland Recreation Center

Our list wouldn’t be complete without the Veterans Day Walk hosted by Pearland Recreation Center. Walking the 4k loop helps raise money and awareness for veterans suffering from PTSD, with proceeds going to Camp Hope, Pearland Community Assistance Providers, and HIKE for Mental Health. Make sure to register in the gymnasium by 8:15 a.m. at the latest, just in time for the the 8:30 a.m. pre-walk ceremony honoring veterans.

When: Saturday, November 13, starting at 8:45 a.m.

How much: $20 for online advance registration, $25 for day-of registration
