A timeless Christmas classic comes to the stage of A.D. Players at The George Theater this holiday season and you’re not going to want to miss it.
Now in its 53rd season, A.D. Players present “Miracle on 34th Street,” the story of a man named Kris Kringle who lands a job as the department store Santa Claus at New York’s Macy’s, only to be the victim of an unfortunate setup that institutionalizes him for being delusional and dangerous after word gets out that he believes he’s actually the real Santa Claus. It’s now up to a young girl and a lawyer to prove that he is Jolly Saint Old Nick.
This Christmas favorite runs from Nov. 29 through Dec. 29, so you will have plenty of time to wrangle up your family during the busiest time of the year. Showtimes are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and then matinee shows at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Tickets range from $25 to $75 depending on location and can be purchased here. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 713-526-2721 with any questions.
The theater is located in Houston at 5420 Westheimer Road.
Initially released as “The Big Heart in the United Kingdom,” Miracle on 34th Street is an American Christmas classic that was originally written and directed by George Seaton. Since its release in 1947, it has been redone on several occasions — both on stage and in film — and become a Christmas tradition for many families.
Of note, the classic movie of Miracle on 34th Street became the first full-length black and white film to be colorized in 1985 before being released on VHS and LaserDisc two years later.
Miracle on 34th isn’t the only holiday event going on at The George Theater. On Dec. 9 and 10, don’t miss an unforgettable Nat King Cole Christmas with Chicago sensation Evan Tyrone Martin who is going to cover a number of Nat King Cole songs and Christmas favorites.
Also feel free to make a special night out with a dinner and a show pairing. You can purchase a dinner package from a participating restaurant and enjoy it before the show. The Players will take care of your reservation.
If you’re looking to do something fun after the show, setup a ride with A.D. Players newest partners — Jordan Limousines. You and your group can take a ride through River Oaks on Houston’s only trolley bus!
