A number of athletes, celebrities, and local business owners have stepped up to the plate to help those in need during the COVID-19 crisis, and Houston Astros star Alex Bregman is the latest to pitch in. Bregman has launched FEEDHOU, a $1 million fundraising campaign aimed at feeding local residents who are impacted by this outbreak.
Bregman has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to ensure children and families get the help they need to stay fed during these trying times.
“While the Astros are off the field, I want to create a new team to help Houston’s hungry. Houston is my home, and right now my home is in need,” Bregman said in a statement. “By partnering with a great organization such as the Houston Food Bank, we can all do our part to ensure Houston’s underserved children and families continue to get the support they need during these difficult times.”
To kick things off, Bregman and local icon Mattress Mack (Jim McIngvale) are each donating $100,000 toward the cause. Additionally, Houston rapper Paul Wall is showing support for the cause by creating a special album called “Frozen Face – Vol. 3 – FEEDHOU edition” that will include songs and lyrics inspired by the cause.
McIngvale said, “I am thrilled to support the Houston Food Bank, a leading organization dedicated to helping Texans during this pandemic. The Houston Food Bank has been a force for good for decades and I could not be more excited to partner with Alex Bregman, Paul Wall, and Houston Food Bank.”
Want to help support the cause? You can donate by texting “FEEDHOU” to 4144 o your phone or by visiting the FEEDHOU donation page online.
“I am asking everyone to consider being a member of this army of donors,” Bregman said. “Together, we can show the world the sense of community and resiliency that has come to define just who we are as a city.”
