If there’s one positive thing to come out of the pandemic, it’s the resurgence of drive-in theaters. Before the pandemic, there was only one place to see a drive-in movie in the Houston area — the excellent Showboat Drive-In. But over the last few months, several new drive-in cinemas have popped up, including Rooftop Cinema Club’s Drive-In locations at Sawyer Yards and in Spring, drive-in movies at The Orange Show, pop-up theaters in Walmart parking lots, and even “boat-in” movies on the water.
Now, there’s another place you can catch a drive-in movie, and it’s right in the middle of The Heights/Shady Acres area. Shady Acres Saloon now has a weekend drive-in series taking place every Friday and Saturday evening.
Upcoming showings include Rocketman, High Fidelity, Get Out, Bohemian Rhapsody, Ex Machina, The Rental, and more.
Dubbed “The Best Little Drive-In in HTX,” the outdoor cinema boasts “a state of the art LED Video Wall which yields a brighter and higher resolution image than your typical drive-in screen.”
Additionally, capacity is limited to just 15 vehicles per screening to ensure that every vehicle enjoys a great view of the movie.
While some drive-in theaters may limit the number of guests in a vehicle, The Best Little Drive-In in HTX says, “We do not limit each car to 2 guests like other Drive-ins. The number of people allowed per vehicle is determined by the number of legal seat belts in the car.”
Want to enjoy concessions while watching the movie? Food and Drinks are available for purchase through Shady Acres Saloon. Before the movie starts, a disposable food and beverage menu is delivered to each car. Guests can then place their orders via text message.
Tickets are $30 per vehicle, and must be ordered online. The Best Little Drive-In in HTX is located at 1127 W 19th St, Houston, Tx 77008.
