Cinco de Mayo

This Sunday, May 5th marks one of the most important holidays in Mexican and Mexican-American culture: Cinco de Mayo. To honor this important holiday, Houston’s own Traders Village is throwing the biggest Cinco de Mayo party in Texas featuring 12 different bands spread out on two simultaneous stages. Don’t get left out of what is sure to be the weekend’s best party!

This year, Traders Village is throwing a Cinco de Mayo party worthy of the Lone Star State. Traditional Mexican foods, festivities, music, dancing, and fun for the whole family can be found this Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th at Traders Village. The event is completely free for the whole family and parking at Traders Village is always just $4.

While Cinco de Mayo has since taken on a life of its own in American and Mexican-American culture, the holiday has its roots in 19th-century Mexico. On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army was able to hold off the invading French forces from taking Mexico City, one of the most significant military victories in Mexican history. To honor this historic victory, Mexico today celebrates Cinco de Mayo with military parades and battle reenactments.

In the United States, the holiday is celebrated somewhat differently. Mexican-American communities throughout the country celebrate this holiday with food, festivities, and music. Today, the holiday is an important way for Mexican-Americans to celebrate and share their heritage and culture with their neighbors.

Traders Village is celebrating Cinco de Mayo this year by throwing the biggest party in Texas – all for free! A full listing of performers can be found at the event’s official website. Just remember $4 for parking.

You might want to bring some other cash, too, because aside from the festivities, the event will include all of the usual open-air, bargain-hunting shopping Traders Village is known for, not to mention the many classic amusement park rides found on site.

Traders Village is located at 7979 N. Eldridge Rd., Houston, Texas 77041. For more information call 281-890-5500 or email [email protected]
