One of the world’s most famous orchestras is heading to the Houston area to perform music written by one of the world’s greatest living composers. The Boston Pops Orchestra will be performing the music of John Williams live at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands just north of Houston. For any fan of classical music or film, this is one concert you don’t want to miss. Best of all? Lawn and mezzanine seats are completely free.
The Boston Pops orchestra is one of the world’s most renowned touring orchestras. The Boston Pops was founded in 1885 as an offshoot of the prestigious Boston Symphony Orchestra. Featuring most of the same musicians as the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops traditionally tours and performs in the Spring and Holiday seasons while the BSO is on break. Their repertoire consists of popular songs from film and television as well as “light classical,” shorter, more familiar pieces of classical music.
The Boston Pops will visit the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to perform a selection of pieces composed by American composer John Williams, one of the most recognizable living composers. Williams’ film scores span over six decades and include some of the biggest movies of all time: the Star Wars series, Jaws, the Indiana Jones series, Jurassic Park, and the first three Harry Potter films. Williams has won 24 Grammy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Academy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. In addition to his more well-known film scores, Williams has composed dozens of concertos, chamber pieces, and other orchestral works.
The concert kicks off The Pavilion’s 30th year of hosting performances from some of the world’s top artists.
“We are honored to provide top-quality live performances to our community and to our region. And like the initial dream of Cynthia Woods Mitchell, it is intended to be affordable and accessible in keeping with the venue’s mission of fostering new audiences and enhancing an appreciation of the arts. I hope The Woodlands residents bring their families to The Pavilion to support our performing arts events. Having The Boston Pops on Tour perform in The Woodlands on our stage is a once in a lifetime event and I hope we pack the house,” says Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion.
The Boston Pops will be performing the music of John Williams at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Thursday, March 21. Gates open at 6:30 and the concert begins at 8:00. Tickets start at $35 for Orchestra Reserved Seating, but the lawn and mezzanine are free. For more information and to get your tickets, visit the Woodlands Center website.
