Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston

Although 2020 hasn’t necessarily been a year of great news, we’re here to report a noteworthy silver lining — one made possible by the communities of Houston.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston area brought in their 12th Santa Project this year. This annual fundraiser brings in donations of toys and gifts and delivers them to the children and teens who attend these programs. 2020’s run hit an all-time record for the organization, crossing off the wish lists of over 1,100 grateful recipients.

From December 3rd through the 11th, participants and community members dropped off a slew of holiday gifts at the 815 Crosby Street location. These gifts included electronics, toys, sports equipment, and even essential items. After the big drop-off, the Boys & Girls Clubs staff disguised as “Santa’s Helpers” assisted in organizing, wrapping, and sorting these gifts at this site.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston attributes much of its success this year to its generous sponsor Kroger and media partner CW39. In addition, the organization gives a shout-out to Lowe’s for giving away 199 artificial Christmas trees to participating families. Because of all of this support, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston is able to deliver Christmas cheer to 23 clubs spanning five counties. The incredible effects of fundraising truly show how a little effort on many people’s parts can make a big difference.

To gain a better perspective of the jobs of “Santa’s Helpers” and the multitude of gifts received, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Houston have uploaded a video on YouTube recounting the busy week they’ve had. As you can see, the Boys & Girls Clubs volunteers definitely deserve a round of applause for all of the wonderful work they do.
