houston childcare assistance

If you’re an employee of an essential business and a parent, you may be facing difficulty finding and paying for child care during these trying times. Fortunately, some relief is now available thanks to a joint effort between city and county leaders, Collaborative for Children, and Workforce Solutions.

Essential workers (nurses, doctors, grocery store employees, etc.), Harris County employees, and City of Houston employees who have children 12 years old and younger can visit FindChildcareNow.org to get matched with high-quality child care and to apply for financial assistance to offset the expenses.

“If you are an essential worker in need of child care, we are here to assist you and ease the burden,” reads a statement on the website. “Collaborative for Children and Workforce Solutions, in partnership with the City of Houston, Harris County and other community partners, will match you with high-quality child care that best suits your family’s needs. And, you can apply for financial assistance to offset child care expenses from Workforce Solutions.”

In a statement released earlier today, Mayor Sylvester Turner said, “I recognize the challenges that you and your family face in these difficult times. Essential workers have kept our city and county operating since the beginning of this healthcare crisis. On any given day, finding quality childcare is critically important for parents who work outside the home, and today this issue is further complicated by the fact that many of our most reliable systems of childcare, from local public schools to childcare centers, are challenged by COVID-19 closures and a great deal of uncertainty.”

“Taking care of those who are taking care of our city during this public health emergency is paramount. Collaborative for Children, Workforce Solutions, City of Houston and Harris County joined forces with other community partners to provide much needed child care support during this health care crisis.”
