Experience True Halloween Monster Mayhem at the Children’s Museum of Houston

As the temperatures and leaves start falling each year, it can only mean one thing: Halloween is coming. If you’ve got little ghosts and ghouls in your household, you don’t want to mass the safe, family-friendly Halloween magic at The Children’s Museum of Houston. This month, the Children’s Museum is hosting a museum-wide magical and mysterious monster hunt full of tricks, treats, and surprises for all ages.

The Children’s Museum of Houston’s “Halloween Monster Mayhem” runs through October 31st and offers a variety of special events for the little monsters in your life. Each weekday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and all day on weekends and Halloween day, the museum is hosting a special trick-or-treat quest throughout the entire museum. In addition, many of the museum’s exhibits and installations are being taken over by mischievous monsters and creepy creatures this Halloween. Museumgoers can experiment with chemical reactions to design fizzing jack-o-lanterns at the Alexander Art Academy, put together a unique magic potion bottle or sugar skull mask at Junktion, or watch mini-monsters come to life using 3D printers in the Chevron Maker Annex. Head over to the museum’s website for a full listing of special Halloween activities.

In the Tree Top exhibit, the museum is hosting the “Monster Olympics,” a series of frightfully fun games including Witches Hat Toss, Ghost Bowling, Pin the Spider in Her Web, and Pumpkin Tosses. On October 27 beginning at 11:00 a.m., the museum will host Slime Making Interactive, an out-of-this-world workshop which will explore how to make gross, gooey slimes like Monster Ooze, Zombie Brains, and Pumpkin Guts. The workshop costs $5 and is for ages 6 and up. Online pre-registration is required.

Attendees can also take part in “Monster’s Spell,” a digital augmented reality monster hunt using the “Clue Keeper” app available on mobile devices for just $5. With the app installed, monster hunters can explore the museum in order to unleash monsters lurking around every corner.

To cap off the month-long Halloween mayhem, the Children’s Museum will host the Halloween Monster Mash Bash on October 31, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. The kid-friendly party will feature a DJ, a Monster Mashup, a Thriller dance party, mummy wrapping, and trick-or-treating of course. Wear your best costume and come rattle your bones to ghoulish tunes in a safe space.

Come enjoy some family-friendly frights this Halloween and see why the Children’s Museum of Houston is ranked among the best in the nation.
