Forever Tango at Miller Outdoor Theatre

Forever Tango at Miller Outdoor Theatre

Learn the roots of Tango and witness a performance honoring the vibrant music and dance of Argentina. There will be 14 top-notch tango dancers, one vocalist, and an eleven-piece orchestra on stage, including the bandoneon — tango’s signature instrument. All these and more as Forever Tango takes center stage at the Miller Outdoor Theatre on November 4!

A brief history of Tango

In the 19th century, thousands of men left a collapsing Europe to immigrate to South America. There, they found themselves in congested packing houses, bars, brothels, and street corners of outlying barrios, where they gave birth to the tango that people have come to love to this day.

The tango, which Argentina society initially disapproved of as vulgar, suddenly became popular in upper-class Paris after being introduced there by Argentine intellectuals. The tango swiftly expanded throughout Europe and America before being eventually brought back to Argentina, though more evolved and no longer in the exact same way it was before.

Born in the brothels and bordellos of Buenos Aires, the tango may be Argentina’s best-known export.

Forever Tango at Miller Outdoor Theatre – What to expect

There will be 14 dancers on the stage. Each couple has worked with director/creator Luis Bravo to produce the dances, which are performed to both original and traditional music. “The tango is a feeling that you dance,” says Bravo, “a story you tell in three minutes. It’s passionate, it’s melancholic. It’s tender, violent. You dance it with somebody – but it is so internal, you dance it by yourself. More than just a dance, the tango is music, a drama, a culture, a way of life.”
