Indulge in local market and movie — It’s a new combo each Friday in June, thanks to Urban Harvest’s touring City Hall Farmer’s Market and Movie Night. Folks can purchase fresh local produce and goodies each Friday beginning at 5 p.m. with the movie kicking off at 8 p.m. Here’s the movie lineup: June 3 — Grease, June 10 — Legally  Blonde, June 17 — Back to the Future, June 24 — The Wizard of Oz. Don’t miss food trucks such as food trucks Oh My Pocket Pies, Frosted Betty, & Fusion Taco. Find the event at Agness Moffitt Park, at Beltway 8 N and Hammerly.

Watch creativity in the sand — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) annual Sandcastle Competition in Galveston is like nothing you’ve seen!  Saturday, June 4, marks the 25th year of this friendly competition pitting business teams against each other. This event is free and family friendly.  Prep work begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Sand castle building kicks off at 10 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. The public votes — with awards at 4:30 p.m.! Explore art in the Heights — The First Saturday Arts Market returns this Saturday, June 4, with its summer hours from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.  This monthly outdoor market features original art, music, and fun.  Located at 548 W. 19th. Other Heights’ fun is listed here by area stores.

Prepare for hurricane season — Make plans for your family to learn and have fun at the 2011 Hurricane Workshop June 4, 2011.  First 2,000 receive a free lunch. This annual event at George R. Brown Convention Center provides interactive demonstrations and exhibits, CenterPoint powerline safety demo, and messages by Mayor Parker and Judge Emmett. Kids will love the Kids Zone with interactive fun. Hours are 10 .m. – 3 p.m.

Mingle at free museums and zoo — First weekend of the month means Target Free First Sunday June 5 at the Children’s Museum of Houston. Free admission to the public from noon to 6 p.m. It’s also Bank of America’s free admission for “Museums on Us” program with free admission to the Houston Zoo, Children’s Museum, and Museum of Fine Arts. This is for Bank of America cardholders only.
