Monday (1/15) — There are two Houston parades Monday for MLK, Jr. Day. 1) The 40th annual “Original” MLK, Jr. Parade begins at Minute Maid Park at 10 am with a variety of marching bands, floats, military groups , first responders and more. Leela James, singer and songwriter, serves as the Grand Marshal. The parade will be followed by the MLK, Jr. Taste of Houston Festival with free family-friendly fun at Lot B (Texas and St. Emanuel) 2) Watch the 24th annual MLK Grande Parade downtown Monday beginning at 10 am. The parade begins in Midtown at San Jacinto and Elgin with 30 marching bands and 15 floats.

Monday (1/15) —  Dinosaur lovers will be in heaven at DinoFest Monday, 3 pm – 7 pm, at The Square at Memorial City. Kids can spend the afternoon hanging out with Jurassic Extreme’s walking dinosaurs, dusting fossils and enjoying prehistoric activities and crafts. Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur will begin on the jumbo screen at 5 pm. Located between Maggiano’s and Cheesecake Factory on the Gessner side of Memorial City Mall.

Tuesday (1/16) — Head to Blue Willow Bookshop Tuesday, 7 pm, for a discussion and book signing of the YA novel Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu. {The discussion is free but folks must buy a book at Blue Willow Bookshop to go through the book signing line.} Located at 14532 Memorial Dr.

Wednesday (1/17) — Central Library hosts Midday Movie and a Meal Wednesdays at noon. This week’s movie is Rememory (PG-13). Lunch is provided but food and beverages can be brought in, too. Tickets are available beginning at 11 am. Tickets are not needed to attend but those with a ticket receive lunch first. Located at 500 McKinney.

Thursday (1/18) — Enjoy six museums for free each Thursday in Houston’s Museum District.

  • Houston Museum of Natural Science — 2 pm – 5 pm
  • Children’s Museum of Houston — 5 pm – 8 pm
  • Museum of Fine Arts, Houston — 10 am – 9 pm
  • The Health Museum — 2 pm – 7 pm
  • Houston Museum of African American Culture — 6 pm – 8 pm
  • Buffalo Soldiers National Museum — 1 pm – 5 pm

Thursday (1/18) — Head downtown for Bank of America’s Screen on the Green at 7 pm. This week’s free movie is Miracle. Located at Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney.
