FRIDAY

Get fit — The free two-day EXPO downtown Friday and Saturday is actually packet pick up for marathon/half-marathon folks. The public can attend the free information sessions and browse more than 100 health and running related booths. Hours are 11 am – 6 pm Friday. Located at George R. Brown Convention Center.

Celebrate the Astros — The Houston Astros Caravan is making rounds throughout Houston Friday, 5 pm – 7 pm, for autograph signings and the Caravan Jams. Locations include Central Green Park in Katy, The Woodlands, and Missouri/Sugar Land. Caravan Jams feature live music, inflatables, food trucks, face painters, caricaturists, and more! Plus players will make a 30-minute appearance, participate in a Q&A and play interactive games with select fans. Find the schedule here.

Watch a movie under the moon — Don’t miss Family Friday Movie Night each Friday in January. This Friday features Despicable Me 3 beginning at 7 pm. Located on The Square at Memorial City Mall, facing Gessner behind Maggiano’s and Cheesecake Factory.

Relax with Tai Chi — Join Jade Mountain Martial Arts for Tai Chi each Saturday outdoors at Central Green Park in Katy. This Chinese martial art centers the mind, body and spirit. Located at 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd.

Play in the snow — Kids will love Snow Day at Baytown’s Town Square Saturday featuring 75 tons of snow, snow slides, snow discs and more! This free event is open 10 am – 6 pm. The Town Square is located at 213 W. Texas Ave.

Watch a parade — The 12th annual MLK Youth Parade honors Martin Luther King, Jr. Saturday which kicks off at noon in Midtown at San Jacinto and Elgin, with floats, marching bands, and more.

Browse art — Don’t miss the Harry Potter-themed Art Show Saturday and Sunday sponsored by Texas Art Asylum. Check out creative art from the houses of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. Hours are 2 pm – 8 pm Saturday and 1 pm – 5 pm Sunday. Located at 1719 Live Oak.

Get crafty — Abrakadoodle sponsors weekly arts and craft activities each Saturday at The Square at Memorial City, 3 pm – 5 pm. This is geared to kids ages 5-10. Located at 303 Memorial City Way.

Create poetry — Create a concrete poem inspired by Christopher Knowles’s typewriter drawings at Contemporary Art Museum Houston. This is part of the museum’s weekly Drop-In Experience each Saturday 1 pm – 4 pm with guided in-gallery discussions and pop-up activities. CAMH is located at 5216 Montrose Blvd. Free museum admission every day!

Celebrate the arts — Enjoy family fun at MATCH Family Fun Day (1 pm – 4 pm) with live music, character visits from Main Street Theater (Snoopy and Junie B. Jones), indoor bounce house, chalk and balloon artists, face painting, stilt walkers and portrait photographer Keliy Anderson-Staley. It also includes a kid-friendly concert by Prelude Music and dance performances from Peter and Wendy by Open Dance Project – featuring Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Tinkerbell flying through the air on aerial silks.
