Watch free outdoor movies — 1) Levy Park: Catch a free screening of Minions beginning at 6 pm at Levy Park, 3801 Eastside. Please do not bring any lawn chairs, blankets only! 2) The Square at Memorial City: Enjoy a free outdoor musical, Frozen, at The Square at Memorial City beginning at 7 pm. This is located between Cheesecake Factory and Maggiano’s on the Gessner side of the mall. Bring your blanket to enjoy the flick.

Ride bikes downtownCritical Mass returns Friday at 7 pm, the last Friday each month. Folks ride around the city to raise awareness and advocate for a bike-friendly environment. All bikers are welcome. Meet at Market Square Park, 301 Milam.


Relax with Tai Chi — Join Jade Mountain Martial Arts for Tai Chi each Saturday outdoors at Central Green Park in Katy, 8:30 am. This Chinese martial art centers the mind, body and spirit. Located at 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd.

Get creative — Bring your kids to Young Writers Workshop, Saturday, 10:30 am, Houston’s only free and open writing workshop for kids hosted by Writers In The Schools. Kids learn to express their thoughts and develop language skills. Limited to 25 students. Presented by Houston Public Library/HPL Express and Discovery Green. Located at 1500 McKinney.

Watch a movie under the moon — 1) Central Green Park: Don’t miss Tangled, a free outdoor movie at Katy’s Central Green Park. The free movie begins at dusk. 2) The Square at Memorial City: Get ready to enjoy Moana, a free outdoor movie beginning at 7 pm at The Square at Memorial City. Located at 303 Memorial City Way on the Gessner side of Memorial City Mall.


Celebrate the new year at The Square: Memorial City Mall is hosting two events for New Years! Enjoy a family-friendly event, Noon Year’s Eve, from 11 am – 12:30 pm December 31. Kids will enjoy DJ music and face painting plus a lemonade toast and balloon drop at noon to kick off the New Year! Located at Memorial City Mall Fireplace at the West Entrance. Adults can return for a festive outdoor New Year’s Eve celebration at The Square at Memorial City, 9 pm – midnight. Watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on the jumbo screen featuring New Year’s Eve swag, popcorn and cash bar. Located at 303 Memorial Way between Maggiano’s and The Cheesecake Factory.

Enjoy family fun — CityCentre is hosting two events December 31 beginning with a Noon Year’s Eve celebration from 11 am – 1 pm. The family-friendly fun includes face painting, a balloon and caricature artist, magic mirror photo booth, plus DJ and bubbles at noon. Adults will enjoy New Year’s Eve at CityCentre. The free event kicks off at 9:30 pm with live music by Bristol Fashion on the plaza. Don’t miss the countdown to midnight in the plaza with confetti and a 60-second fireworks show from the rooftop. Parking is $10 in all garages. CityCentre is located at 800 Town and Country Blvd.

Celebrate in Kemah — Don’t miss the New Year’s Eve celebration in Kemah! It features live entertainment, dancing in the Plaza to live music and fireworks at 10 pm. The Boardwalk is open 10:30 am – 11 pm December 31. Located at 215 Kipp Ave. in Kemah.
