Independence Day is almost here. The Fourth of July is a time to get together with loved ones and celebrate all the freedoms that make America great while enjoying some delicious food, tasty drinks, fun activities, and of course, fireworks. Here in Houston, there’s no better place to do this than at CITGO Freedom Over Texas.
CITGO Freedom Over Texas will feature live music and performances, activities for the kids, food vendors, and, of course, the best part of any Fourth of July celebration: FIREWORKS. Admission starts at just $8 when you order tickets online through July 3, and tickets are on sale now. You can buy tickets at the gate for $10 on the day of the event as well. Kids 5 and under are FREE!
Live music is always one of the highlights of CITGO Freedom Over Texas, and this year features two of country music’s biggest stars. The event will feature performances from Jake Owen, who topped the country charts with his album Barefoot Blue Jean Night, and Kellie Pickler, a chart-topping singer who came to fame by taking 6th place in the fifth season of American Idol.
The event will also once again feature the Walmart All-American Kids Zone, offering fun for the whole family. The Kids Zone will have life-sized games, a rock wall and obstacle course, carnival rides, aerial arts performances, and a concert from local norteño band Los Luzeros de Rioverde. Kids can also take photos with their favorite Disney stars, like Moana, Elsa, Woody, Captain America, and more!
In addition to fun and games, the event features a huge selection of food trucks and vendors and the Bud Light Bayou Beer Garden will once again return to serve up ice cold beer to attendees aged 21 and up.
If things get a little too hot, head over to the Dr Pepper Zone for some shade, drinks, and more family-friendly activities, including interactive painting with great local artists.
This year, CITGO Freedom Over Texas will celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of America’s and Houston’s crowning achievements: the Apollo 11 moon landing. “CITGO Freedom Over Texas is my favorite signature event of the year, and it is an honor to be back and partnering with NASA’s Johnson Space Center to launch a month-long celebration, leading up to the anniversary date of the Lunar Landing. This anniversary also marks 50 years of a beneficial and successful partnership between the City of Houston and NASA, a true inspiration for America,” says Mayor Sylvester Turner.
To celebrate the Apollo 11 lunar mission, the 2019 CITGO Freedom Over Texas will feature meet-and-greets with real astronauts, a virtual reality tour of the International Space Station, NASA robotics demonstrations, and more.
The 2019 CITGO Freedom Over Texas celebration kicks off on July 4, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Eleanor Tinsley and Sam Houston Parks and along Allen Parkway. The West Gate is at Taft at Allen Parkway; North Gate at Sabine at Memorial; and East Gate at Bagby at Dallas.
