With Houston’s newest Christmas tradition, Galaxy Lights, you can enjoy the holiday season while learning about science and space exploration. Through the use of LED lighting, 3-D projections, and interactive displays, this brand-new, cutting-edge NASA Christmas lights experience will transform and brighten Space Center Houston with space-themed installations.

Galaxy Lights Houston 2022 – What to Expect from NASA Space Center Christmas Lights?

A wide variety of interactive and immersive light displays are included as part of the self-guided holiday experience in the center, in Independence Plaza, and at Rocket Park. Let’s see everything that you can expect at Galaxy Light Houston:

Kinetic Lights

Witness two cutting-edge kinetic light shows as hundreds of hanging NASA lights dance to music in finely coordinated patterns over the Main Plaza. Observe how the orbs move in unison to produce vibrant patterns and shapes. Watch the original movie “Holidays in Space,” which features conversations with retired astronauts and actual videos of astronauts spending the holidays in space. The 15-minute movie plays at Destiny Theater every 30 minutes from 6:15 p.m. until 9:45 p.m.

New Deep Space Backyard

They always have something fresh and exciting at NASA Galaxy Lights. This year, visit the brand-new Deep Space Backyard and take a tour of the solar system. While surrounded by huge displays of astronauts traveling across space, stroll beneath the stars and take pictures.

Sit back and enjoy this brand-new crystal fireworks show. View crystal fireworks come to life on a stunning 40-foot-tall cascading light show made up of many galaxy colors. This is one of the world’s only two crystal fireworks displays.

Live Show in the Mission Briefing Center

To learn more about the science of light, check out the interactive show “Celebrate Light.” Learn more about how our eyes perceive color and the impact that light plays on the colors we see around us. Discover the electromagnetic spectrum. Also, you get to gain knowledge about the origins, speed, and impact of light on space travel. The performance starts at 7, 8, and 9 pm.

Independence Plaza Experience

Space Center Houston Galaxy Lights allows you to take a journey through a 200-foot LED light tunnel consisting of more than 250,000 lights synced to merry holiday music on your approach to the Independence Plaza Experience, provided by MLN. Explore the solar system by moving past gigantic replicas of each planet. Don’t overlook the up-lit, laser-etched acrylic silhouette sculptures showing several stars just before entering Independence Plaza. Step aboard the 290 multicolored, interactive light platforms supported by H.E.B., which are located beneath the wing of the historic shuttle carrier aircraft.

Visit the high-fidelity shuttle model Independence and the historic shuttle carrier NASA 905, and on your way down, take in the Saturn V rocket lights from the second landing of the tower. Walk beneath a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket that is 30 feet tall. Enjoy the odd snowfall from the snow machine as well as snowflakes falling on our large projection wall. At the s’more pits, get some hot chocolate and s’mores kits and take in the festive atmosphere. And in the Earth picture station and the brand-new snow globe photo station, take in a sparkling model of the Earth and a prism tree while taking a stunning selfie.

Space Station Tribute at Space X Falcon 9

Explore the Lights Around the World show encircling the twice-flown SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to commemorate the global cooperation onboard the International Space Station (ISS) at Space Center Galaxy Lights. Observe six 20-foot illuminated trees made of aluminum depicting the nations of the Space Station’s partners, including those of the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Russia, and Italy, encircled by stars of various colors that glow along the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The trees are culturally adorned to pay honor to each partner country.

Take a selfie while standing underneath a huge, 100-foot-long, glittering shooting star that is 40 feet tall. And also, take a picture with a 15-foot wreath composed of all the ISS partner flags at the tip of the Falcon 9.

This immersive experience of Space Center Lights has several segments that are so large they must be outdoors. Along with the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and shuttle transport aircraft NASA 905, explore enormous planets, stars, seasonal decorations, and more in Independence Plaza. Please keep an eye on the weather and plan accordingly. Stop by one of the gift stores to pick up an additional layer, hat, or scarf if a chilly front is sneaking up the Space Coast on you.

Public price starts at $19.95 | Member price starts at $15.95 | Ages 3 & younger get free admission.

A combo ticket grants entry to both Galaxy Lights and Space Center Houston starting at 3 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy both attractions. Also, not that all ticket purchases will automatically be charged $5 for parking for one vehicle.

Galaxy Lights Houston 2022 – Schedule, Dates, and Hours of Operation

The Houston Galaxy Lights will be open from November 12 through January 1 from 6 pm. to 10 pm. Allow 90 minutes so that you can fully appreciate the experience. Note that it’ll be closed on November 24, December 8, 24 & 25.
