In the mid-1980s and early 1900s, a musical subculture sprang up in America’s Pacific Northwest that would change the face of music forever. To honor the grunge movement, Houston’s own House of Blues is hosting the upcoming Grudge Fest this June. If you’re a fan of grunge music, we’ve got some great news for you: HOTC readers can score complimentary tickets to this night of legendary grunge music.
The grunge movement sprang up when West Coast bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and others developed an over-driven, heavily distorted sound of music which captured the angst and introspection of Generation X before becoming a commercial phenomenon. The grunge movement exploded into the mainstream almost as quickly as it faded away, but it left a defining impact on many of today’s musical subcultures and styles.
To honor the iconic grunge scene, the House of Blues is hosting Grunge Fest, an evening of some of the best music to come out of the grunge movement. Four tribute bands will play the music of four of the best bands to come out of the grunge scene: Pearl Gem, a Pearl Jam tribute; Nervana, a Nirvana tribute; Alyson Chayns, an Alice in Chains tribute and Rusted Cage, a Soundgarden tribute.
Tickets to this all-ages show start at $15, but HOTC readers can take advantage of complimentary tickets offered through Goldstar.com. All it takes is a free Goldstar membership which you can sign up for using your Facebook account or email address to start taking advantage of offers like this one on the best things to do in Houston.
