Houston has plenty to offer for Halloween-themed family fun in October — and a couple geared more to adults. Check out this round-up of events through October 31 — some of which are free!
** Halloween Monster Mayhem: The Children’s Museum of Houston is a Halloween mecca October 10 – 31 with Halloween Monster Mayhem. Kids can wear their costume and explore the mansion, complete spooky science experiments and more. Free trick-or-treating is available weekdays Tuesday – Friday 4 pm – 6 pm, 4 pm – 8 pm Thursday, and all day weekends through Halloween night. Don’t miss Halloween Monster Mash Bash October 31! Free family admission on Thursday, October 26, from 5 pm – 8 pm, for Free Family Night. ** Boo on the Boardwalk: Kids can enjoy free Trick-or-Treating at the Kemah Boardwalk for Halloween-theme
** Zoo Boo at Houston Zoo: It’s a Halloween party that takes over the Houston Zoo October 13-15, 20-22, 27-29! The annual Zoo Boo at Houston Zoo features lots of kid-friendly fun including trick-or-treating, costume parade, Living Pumpkin Patch, Monster Mural, Monster Mashquerade, and Candy Corners. Enjoy lighter crowds on Fridays from 9 am – 1 pm. Weekend hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am – 4 pm. Zoo Boo is included with Zoo admission: $14 for kids age 2-11, $18 for adults, $11.50 for seniors. Houston Zoo is located in Hermann Park.
** Bass Pro Shops Halloween: Bass Pro Shops proudly sponsors its free Halloween activities, “It’
** Frankweenie: Enjoy Frankweenie outdoor movie at Sugar Land Town Square’s free outdoor screening. The movie is October 21, 7:15 pm.
** Psycho: Enjoy a mid-week scare Wednesday, October 25, at Market Square Park’s free outdoor screening of Psycho beginning at 7 pm. Located at 301 Milam.
** Hauntcert — Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Halloween-themed concert, Hauntcert, October 28, as part of the festivities at Pearland Town Center. Concert begins at 5:30 pm. More info listed below in Trick or Treat on Our Street.
** Scream on the Green: This citywide Halloween party, Scream on the Green, is a free event for the whole family October 27, 6 pm – 10 pm. The evening features music, movie, performances and games. Dress up the whole family for the costume contest with prizes. Categories range from infants to adults and dogs! Catch the free outdoor movie, Hotel Transylvania 2, beginning at 7:30 pm. Discovery Green is located downtown at 1500 McKinney.
** Trick or Treat on Our Street: Pearland Town Center is the spot for lots of Halloween fun for the family at Trick or Treat on Our Street October 28, 5 pm – 9 pm. Kids will love trick-or-treating at participating stores from 5 pm – 7 pm. Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra shares an interactive concert with musicians dressed in costume beginning at 5:30 pm. Don’t forgot to dress up for the costume contest beginning at 6:30 pm. Hotel Transylvania 2 begins at 7:30 pm.
** Tricks & Treats Among the Trees: Enjoy a free trick-or-treat nature trail at Tricks & Treats Among the Trees October 28, 3:30 pm – 7 pm at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center. The afternoon also features Halloween fun with crafts, live creepy critters, games, hayrides, a critter storybook trail and more. Costumed trick-or-treaters are encouraged! Located at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center, 20634 Kenswick Dr. in Humble.
** Halloween Carnival: Don’t miss the Deer Park 44th annual Halloween Carnival, October 28, noon – 3 pm. It features a pumpkin carving contest, carnival rides, costume contests plus activities for little ones in Pumpkin Town. Located at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center, 500 W. 13th Street in Deer Park.
** Halloween on the Green: Celebrate Halloween fun at Halloween on the Green October 28, 6 pm – 8 pm. Dress up in your favorite costume and enjoy family fun such as hayrides, costume contest, candy and more. Located at Associated Credit Union of Texas corporate office in League City, 1095 W. League City Parkway.
** Trick or Treat Trail: An annual favorite in The Woodlands, kids can travel Trick or Treat Trail Sunday, October 29, 3 pm – 6 pm, at Town Green Park along The Woodlands Waterway. The event includes love trick-or-treating, costume contests, children’s activities, games, balloon artist, pumpkin patch photo opp and more. Located at 2099 Lake Robbins Drive.
** Young Frankenstein: Get in the spirit of Halloween October 29 watching a free screening of Young Frankenstein at Brasil’s outdoor patio. Movie begins at 8:30 pm. Located at 2604 Dunlavy.
** Ghostly Gardens at Moody Gardens: Head to Galveston for this free Halloween-related family event. Ghostly Gardens at Moody Gardens offers a number of special treats for kids Sunday, October 29, including free trick-or-treating, face painting, crafts and a costume contest with prizes. The event is 2 pm – 4 pm, with the costume contest for kids up to age 12 beginning at 3 pm. Dress at least one family member in costume and pay only $5 admission, per person, to the various attractions at Moody Gardens.
** Halloween Town — Sugar Land Town Square brings back its favorite Halloween Town Sunday, October 29, 4 pm – 8 pm. The free event features a costume contest, special entertainment, activity stations, pumpkin patch + food and beverages for purchase. Costume contest registration is only online this year. A free shuttle service will run from Mercer Stadium at 16403 Lexington Blvd.
** Halloween Monster Mash Bash: The Children’s Museum of Houston is hosting a kid-friendly Halloween party October 31, 3 pm – 8 pm — Halloween Monster Mash Bash. Families can enjoy trick-or-treating, Thriller Dance Party, Monster Mashup, DJ, Glow-in-the-Dark Monster Slime and more. The event is free with museum admission: $12 for kids and adults. Located at 1500 Binz.
** The Shining: Plan some scary fun October 31 watching a free screening of The Shining at Brasil’s outdoor patio. Movie begins at 8:30 pm. Located at 2604 Dunlavy.
** Movies at Miller: John Miller’s Halloween — Sit outdoors and watch an old Halloween movie, John Carpenter’s Halloween, at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Halloween night, 8 pm. This movie is rated R (1978).
