Starting Wednesday, Texas-based retailer H-E-B announced that they are implementing a mandatory mask policy for all of the stores including stores where local ordinances are not in place. That means that even if your city or county does not have a mask guideline, you still need to wear them in H-E-B stores.

According to Lisa Helfman, an H-E-B spokesperson, H-E-B is focused on the health and safety of their employees, customers, and the overall community. The mask policy was implemented as a way to slow the spread of COVID-19.

In a statement Helfman wrote, “As an essential service provider during the pandemic, H-E-B is focused on the health and safety of our Partners, customers, and continuous service to our communities. Masks are a proven way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and allow businesses to operate safely during the pandemic. Over 85% of H-E-B stores are already operating under a mandatory mask ordinance. Effective July 1, H-E-B will implement a mandatory mask policy in all stores, including those where a local ordinance is not in place.”

Previously, H-E-B only required masks in Texas locations where a mask mandate was already in place.
