lunar staycation

Blast off with one of the most exciting things to do in Houston this summer — a family-friendly lunar landing anniversary event at Springwoods Village. Gaze up at the stars and enjoy numerous space-themed activities to celebrate the Apollo 11 lunar landing 50 years ago!

The festivities take place on July 20 and 21, 2019 at the Springwoods Village community at I-45 and Hardy Toll Road in Spring, Texas. The party kicks off Saturday night at 5:30 pm and events continue the next morning starting at 9:30.

On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 became the first successful human mission to land on the moon and at the same time, Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first human steps on another planet. The Apollo 11 mission was also able to retrieve samples that were returned to Earth, helping to uncover mysterious unknowns about the planet and help with future missions. The outcome of this revolutionary quest was a tremendous launch pad for the next six Apollo moon missions in America.

Your whole family can enjoy fun space activities including stargazing inside an inflatable Discovery Dome Planetarium from the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Or, ask all of your burning questions and learn about outer space with local astronomers from the Houston Astronomical Society. Don’t forget to take a peek through the telescopes to see the glistening stars up close!

And when it’s dinnertime, you don’t have to leave the fun behind. Everything you need to fill up is on-site! Savor in unique lunar snacks and tasty treats by Switchouse Plates & Pours and top it off with the night’s featured drink, the “Out of this World Cosmo.” If you’re in the mood for some local food truck bites, stop by one of the many street-side eateries dishing out delicious food all night long.

Wrap up the night with a huge silent disco party featuring space songs and dance hits mixed by three DJs on separate channels. Tune into your favorite one to get your groove on in an environment unlike any other. And once your feet won’t move anymore, sit back and relax to a movie. Houston Cinema Arts Society and NASA will curate short films for your enjoyment!

Make memories you won’t forget at the Fun Fab Photo Booth & DJ stand. Grab your closest friends and say cheese while making funny pictures with space-themed props. Everyone can take home their photo strips to cherish forever and remember the amazing night had at Springwoods Village.

Want to learn more about the Apollo 11 lunar landing? Be there Sunday, July 21, 2019, at 9:30 am to hear guest speaker John J Uri from NASA speak about America’s space history and interesting lunar landing facts.

This is sure to be one of the most fun things to do in Houston this weekend!
