Miller Outdoor Theatre has announced their lineup of July Performances and they are sure to keep you grooving all month! 

The show always goes on at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, which is generating a lot of buzz with its must-see star-studded performances.     

Head to this iconic outdoor venue with your family for an evening filled with foot-tapping music and unforgettable acts that will leave you dancing in your seats! All performances at Miller are free. If that’s not your jam, you can also stream the live shows, from the comfort of your couch, on the Miller website, YouTube channel and Facebook page

Since 1923, Miller Theatre has been one of Houston’s most beloved cultural haunts, a place for the community gatherings. After a long pause due to covid-19, the theatre finally reopened its doors on May 1. Even so, it has put in place the Miller Two-Step to curb the spread of the virus.


1.AFA Presents Summer Music Festival Showcase

Date: July 2, 2021 (Friday) 

Time: 8:30 p.m.

AFA Summer Music Festival Symphony showcase will unite budding young musicians across Houston to perform as part of American Festival For The Arts’ (AFA) Summer Music Festival Showcase. The program will feature the AFA Summer Music Festival Symphony and String Chamber Orchestras, along with Meliora Winds, a critically acclaimed woodwind quintet comprised of founding AFA faculty artists. The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by AFA alumna Dr. Michelle Perrin Blair, will perform Marilyn Shrude’s “Into the Light,” Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait” with narration by AFA Founder J. Todd Frazier, and Christopher Theofanidis’ exuberant “Rainbow Body.” The String Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by award-winning composer and conductor Alejandro Basulto.

2. Apollo Chamber Players Presents: Latin Beat

 Date: July 3, 2021 (Saturday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

Houston-based Apollo Chamber Players along with some local and national performers will transport the audience to the musical realms of Brazil, Cuba and the Andes through multicultural new music, dance and art. Guests include dancers from Houston Ballet and Houston Contemporary Dance Company, Venezuelan virtuoso violinist Eddy Marcano and pianist Baden Goyo, and Spanish-born percussionist Jesús Pacheco. Music by Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Javier Farias, Aldemaro Romero, Arthur Gottschalk and more! A newly commissioned canvas by Brazilian-born artist Tony Paraná provides a stunning backdrop to this program.

3. Showstoppers: A Broadway Musical Scrapbook Presented by Hits Theatre

 Date: July 9 & 10, 2021 (Friday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

In this blast from the past, HITS Theatre will recreate unforgettable Broadway moments from Millers’ 34-year musical theatre history. The show will feature  25 student performers from grades 1-12 and incorporate memory videos from Stages Repertory Theatre. The evening is sure to touch your heart, bring back fond memories and help forge new ones! The Friday, July 9th performance of this production will be livestreamed and available to watch for 48 hours. 

4. Express Theatre Presents: Aztec Princess A Virtual Performance

 Date: July 14, 2021 (Wednesday) 

 Time: 10:00 a.m.

“Aztec Princess A Virtual Performance” promises to be an educational, fun-filled retelling of two classic Mexican fables about making good choices, sprinkled with lessons on English and Spanish vocabulary. The piece is written by Epig Dominguez and will be performed (and directed) by Cynthia Leal. This performance will be available to stream through July 20.

5. Express Theatre Presents: Rhyme & Reason A Virtual Performance

 Date: July 15, 2021 (Thursday) 

 Time: 10:00 a.m.

Come help us celebrate and trace the roots of Black History from ancient Africa to modern day through music, dance and performance poetry. Houston Poet Laureate Emeritus, Deborah DEEP Mouton, and members of her slam poetry team will narrate their poems. Moreover, Lauren Anderson, world’s first African American prima ballerina, will grace the occasion with a special appearance. Afterwards, there will also be a short Q&A with the cast!


6. Fly Dance Company Presents: The Gentlemen Of Hip Hop

 Date: July 16, 2021 (Friday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

Put on your dancing shoes for this one! FLY Dance Company is bringing back its trademark “theatrical hip-hop,” a stylish, sophisticated and humorous fusion of street dance and classical music. Established in 1995 Fly Dance Company: “The Gentlemen of Hip-Hop “ is a world-renowned dance company that tours and performs all around the globe. Notable performances include Washington’s Kennedy Center, Miller Outdoor Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, Vail International Dance Festival, Lincoln Center in New York, and Bob Hope Theater.

7. Community Music Center of Houston Presents: Family Funk Festival

 Date: July 17, 2021 (Saturday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

The Family Funk concert will span across generations beginning in the 1970s to the present day. Some of Houston’s great musicians including Vivian Mosley and her band The Storm will perform hits from Parliament, Funkadelic, George Clinton and others. After intermission, Tweed Smith a former member of the funk band WAR will wow audiences with some of their greatest hits. Grab a flashlight and immerse yourself in the world of Funk music.

8. Live In Central Park Revisited: James Taylor

 Date: July 23, 2021 (Friday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

Award-winning artists Lee Lessack and Johnny Rodgers will pay homage to the unique artistry and indelible music of James Taylor. Relive the incredible moment in 1979 when the renowned James Taylor played live in Central Park. Favorites like “Carolina in My Mind,” “Walking Man,” and “Sweet Baby James” will be sublimely rendered by Lessack and Rodgers.

9. Houston’s Got Bollywood Presented By Moksh Community Arts

 Date: July 24, 2021 (Saturday) 

 Time: 8:30 p.m.

Lights, Camera, Action!

In true Bollywood dance-theatre style, Adventures in Motion Pictures aims to breathe  life into Bollywood movies through its music, languages, art and festivals of India. The show will reveal itself through 4 main acts, accompanied by a wide range of foot tapping melodies, elaborate costumes, innovative choreography, mind blowing visuals combined with magical lighting and sets, woven together in a spectacular Bollywood Production.

Act 1: “Café India” will take you on a musical journey through the diverse soundscapes of Bollywood.

Act 2: “Lingorama” will showcase dances in Bollywood depicting the multilingual tapestry of Indian culture. 

Act 3: “L’arte Indian” will embody the magical imagination embodied in ancient sculptures, paintings and places of India.

Act 4: Colors of India–This Act true to its title celebrates the various Festivals of India

10. Miller Outdoor Theatre Summer Mixtape Series

Date: July 29, 30 and 31, 2021 (Thursday-Saturday)

Time: 8:30 p.m.

Music lovers of Houston are invited to watch their favorite local artists perform at the 3-day long Miller Summer Mixtape series. This multi-genre, independent music showcase will feature Houston’s top local acts: From Jazz to Punk, Reggae to Country, and Indie Rock to pop; enjoy your favorite artists on the lawn under the stars or from the pavilion seats.
