No 20th-century writer left quite a mark on philosophy and literature quite like C.S. Lewis. The British writer and theologian wrote some of the most beloved works of fantasy and children’s literature of all time including The Chronicles of Narnia. Along the way, Lewis got to meet and share ideas with some of the biggest names in literature and philosophy including Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien.
To explore the life of such a fascinating literary icon, Houston’s own Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is hosting My Life’s Journey: An Evening with C.S. Lewis. Tickets start at $70, but we’ve got a deal for you offering half-off admission to this one-of-a-kind show.
My Life’s Journey: An Evening with C.S. Lewis is a one-man show written by David Payne which brings the legendary author to life through monologues. Throughout this theatrical chronicle of the author’s life, Lewis recalls the life experiences which shaped and inspired his writings, his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien and other leading literary figures, and even why he nearly gave up on writing The Chronicles of Narnia.
No look at C.S. Lewis’ life and career would be complete without a look into the author’s religious views. Lewis wrote several books and essays about Christianity, particularly in apologetics, the branch of theology concerned with defending Christianity against objections or criticisms. Lewis’ 1952 collection Mere Christianity has been voted one of the best Christian books of the twentieth century.
