New Golf Course East River Houston will soon form a unique recreational hub for the local community and Houstonians. Houston-based Midway, a private, fully integrated real estate investment and development firm, announced that that East River 9, a nine-hole, public, par-three golf course, along with Riverhouse Houston, a family restaurant and patio bar, will open on its site of 150-acre East River development in the Historic Fifth Ward.
New Golf Course East River Houston – The Site (Scheduled to Open by the First Quarter of 2022)
Situated within a mile of downtown Houston, above the 500-year flood plain on the northern bank of Buffalo Bayou, East River 9 will be only the sole nine-hole, public, par-three golf course inside 610 Loop, complete with stadium lights to facilitate an evening game. The links-style short course comprises holes ranging from 80 – 150 backyards, 300-yard driving range, natural grass, a stunning downtown skyline backdrop, a 12,000 SF social putting green, and a 1,000 SF pro shop featuring rental clubs, entertainment, and merchandise.
The Riverhouse Houston restaurant and bar will complement the golf course, and together they’ll contribute to a world-class recreational experience! The restaurant will anchor the golf course, serving a scratch kitchen menu, an assorted range, and a well-rounded beer, spirits, and wine selection. Additionally, features such as live music, mesmerizing sunset views on the restaurant’s spacious terrace, outdoor games, kids’ playscape, and fire pits will add to the excitement and make the venture a genuine recreational delight for Houstonians.
The Management Says
“Our objective is to create an inviting and recreational environment for the local community as well as all Houstonians,” stated Clayton Freels, the concepts’ founding partner. “East River 9 will grow the game by filling a void in the market between the driving range and the full 18-hole experience. It also brings a fun, community-oriented activation that will welcome neighboring residents to a site that has been closed to the public for over 75 years.”
Not Just Recreation, but Employment
Once open for business, the venture will create many full-time jobs for neighboring residents. Riverhouse and East River 9 will start sharing the positions with the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corp. this fall.
In this view, Bianca Dugas, Fifth Ward resident, and Associate Principal at Wheatley, said, “I am delighted about the job opportunities for Fifth Ward community members and the addition of a family-friendly establishment in the neighborhood. The wealth of opportunities that East River 9 will bring will surely improve the community’s economy.”
