New Kids on The Block – One of Forbes Highest-Paid Entertainers
On Tuesday, March 7, the renowned boy band New Kids on the Block will perform at RODEOHOUSTON®. A five-piece American boy band from Boston, Massachusetts, they were founded in 1984 by Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jordan, and Jonathan Knight. “Please Don’t Go, Girl,” their first chart-topping single, reached number 10 after being played on a Florida radio station. Their second album, Hangin Tough, was released in 1988 and quickly rose to the top of the Billboard 200. They first produced a holiday album in 1989 that peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart. In 1990, they launched their third album, Step By Step, which went on to sell nearly 20 million copies.
This boy band didn’t appear to be slowing down. Their fourth album didn’t earn as much attention in 1994, and the band officially broke up in 1995. In 1991, they were named by Forbes as the highest-paid entertainers, topping celebrities like Michael Jackson and Madonna.
Thirteen years later, in 2008, the band declared that a reunion was in the works, complete with a tour and album to mark the occasion. The Block album was soon made available. This album was well-received and placed second out of 200 on the Billboard chart. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was considered for New Kids on the Block in 2012, soon before the release of their sixth studio album, 10. The boy band is back and ready to go.
