With so many fun things to do New Year’s Eve in Houston, many people will be out and about tonight having a great time across the city. A lot of celebrations will involve drinking and toasting to the New Year (cheers!), but it’s important to make sure you have a plan to get home safely at the end of the night.
Unfortunately, New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous nights of the year for drivers. Thankfully, there are some great free services available tonight to make it easy for you to get home safely if you or the person you’re riding with has had a few drinks.
Free METRO Houston Service
Starting at 6 pm tonight and running until 6 am New Year’s Day, Metro Houston will be offering free rides to everyone. Options include buses, MetroRail, and MetroLift services.
You can learn more about the Metro Houston ride schedules on their site so you can plan accordingly.
Free Tows from AAA
The Tipsy Tow program from AAA is another great service that helps keep drunk drivers off the road, and you do not have to be a AAA member to enjoy this service tonight.
If you or someone you’re riding with has been drinking, just call 1-800-222-4357 (1-800-AAA-HELP) and you can get a free tow home up to 10 miles away.
Tipsy Tow service will be available from 6 pm NYE until 6 am New Year’s morning.
Get $5 Toward Your First Lyft Ride
If the free transportation options above aren’t a good fit, you can always use the Lyft app to hail a driver to take you wherever you’d like to go. Just download the app on your phone using this link and you can get $5 in credit toward your first ride, helping you arrive safely for cheap.
