Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Houston by attending a stunning Fiesta Sinfónica Concert coming to town in October!

Houston Symphony’s annual free Fiesta Sinfónica concert is returning to Jones Hall in October 2021, after a year-long hiatus owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert is part of a Houston tradition dating back to 1992 which honours and celebrates Houston’s diversity.

Fiesta Sinfónica Concert To Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Fiesta Sinfónica will mark the Hispanic Heritage Month on 2 October in a vibrant and rhythmic program directed by guest conductor, the Puerto Rican artist, Rafael Enrique Irizarry. The Associate Conductor of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra (PRSO), Irizarry will make his Houston Symphony debut with this concert. Irizarry has also been the French horn player for the PRSO since the last three decades.

Fiesta Sinfónica Concert – What to expect

Rafael Enrique Irizarry will be taking audiences to his Puerto Rican roots in this celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Fiesta Sinfónica concert promises to be a colorful, multicultural program inspired by Irizarry’s native Puerto Rican roots and will incorporate an orchestral arrangement of the Puerto Rican bolero En Mi Viejo San Juan by Noel Estrada, which has come to be recognized as Puerto Rico’s unofficial national anthem.

Among the other energetic tunes that will be played at Fiesta Sinfónica are Jack Delano’s Sinfonietta para Cuerdas which is based on Puerto Rican rhythms and selections from West Side Story, Bernstein’s masterpiece multicultural musical. The recital is also set to feature works like the Final Dance from Falla’s Suite No. 2 of the El Sombrero de tres picos, selections from Bizet’s Suites No. 1 and 2 from Carmen and Moncayo’s Huapango.

If you are connoisseur of music or simply someone who enjoys the mesmerizing and rhythmic notes of Puerto Rican tunes, this event is a true celebration of Hispanic heritage and its cultural moorings, definitely a must attend.
