newton the dragon

For over two decades, Houston Rockets fans laughed, cheered, and made a connection with Robert Boudwin as he performed at over 1,500 games and 6,000 shows and appearances as the beloved Rockets Mascot, Clutch the Bear (a character he created). During his time as Clutch the Bear, Robert performed at over 2,100 elementary school shows in front of more than 1.3 million students, inspiring and motivating a younger audience of school children to dream big for their future, and now he’s bringing his special brand of “edutainment” back to schools across the Houston area in the form of a new character — Newton, a zany book worm dragon with glasses.

To celebrate the end of another great school year, Robert is offering a 15% discount off the normal booking rate for schools booking a Newton performance for the 2019/2020 school year by July 1st.

As Newton, a talking mascot, Robert has already performed over 200 school shows in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Colorado over the past two years.

“[While Robert was] an amazing edutainer for decades as Clutch the Bear, he is even better now as Newton!,” says Principal Beston-Hughes at Youens Elementary in Alief ISD.

Each hour-long performance not only entertains and keeps students’ attention, but also instills the benefits of hard work, dedication, and inspires students to take positive actions toward their academic and personal endeavors. In addition to magic and evoking crowd energy, Newton’s performance message offers students immediate and actionable tips to improve at school, at home, and in daily life. Halfway through the show there is a surprise reveal where the audience meets Robert and he speaks about his time as Clutch as an example for how to exceed your wildest dreams by not setting limits on yourself and applying yourself vigorously.

This is all done while “Penn & Teller style” revealing how the magic tricks in the first half of the show are done, all while revealing how education combined with curiosity, imagination, creativity, and innovation lead to real life magic by creating things that did not exist before or “making them appear” like many other great American inventions.

Principal Troy Michaud at Harvey Brown Elementary in Channelview ISD praised the show, saying “Robert’s show both entertains and educates better than any program I’ve seen.”

Show content also includes Anti-Bullying, STAAR Testing Prep, Anti-Drug Use, Healthy Life Style Choices and Reading Daily as well as highlights of his 21-years of experience as Houston Rockets Mascot Clutch, his current role at the University of Houston, and how education, dreaming big and working hard lead to it all.

In addition to Newton performances, Robert has keynoted for various conferences, corporate events, non-profits, such as the NCAA, United Way, Donate Life America/Life Gift, College Bowl Association, Sam Houston Race Park & delivered a TEDx Talk, and welcomes other speaking engagement opportunities.

To celebrate the end of another great school year, Newton’s “Magic of Learning Secrets Revealed School Show” is being offering a 15% discount off the normal show rate all-inclusive of travel expenses, Emcee, and giveaway items (Newton bookmarkers for ALL students & Foam Newton Apple Balls for ALL teachers to be used as student incentives/rewards) for organizations booking a performance for the 2019/2020 school year by July 1, 2019.

For more information, you can preview shows online as well as review content about Robert’s performances and impact from the Houston Chronicle, ABC13, KPRC CH2 & more at his official website.
