The Houston Ballet Spring Nutcracker Market, originally scheduled to start April 17 at NRG Center, may have been canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak, but you still have the chance to shop the market from the comfort of your home.

Starting right now, you can still shop the market virtually through this Facebook Group.

“We are heartbroken that we had to cancel the Market, but we love our merchants and are so happy to be able to provide a place for them to sell their merchandise and for buyers to still get to shop and support them,” reads a statement on the Facebook page. “Please note that 100% of the sales from this group are going directly to each merchant.”

 

A Beloved Tradition

Since 1981, the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market has been a significant source of funding for the Houston Ballet Foundation and supporting small businesses. Thanks to welcoming Houstonians, it has made its way to becoming one of our favorite holiday traditions, with over 280 vendors, raising over $80 million for the foundation.

Last year the ballet launched its first-ever spring edition of the marketplace, with over 18,150 shoppers, raising over $3.2 million in 3 days, another heart-melting success that shows how loving we are.

This year will be the 40th year for the Nutcracker Market with several repeat vendors.

This Spring’s event was supposed to be another success story at NRG Center, but because of the spread of the COVID19, it has been canceled. It was a difficult decision to make, yet essential to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the shoppers, merchants, committee members, sponsors, volunteers, and staff.

To continue supporting small businesses, the ballet set a Facebook group where merchants all over the state will be dazzling shoppers with homemade sparkles and essentials. About 85 merchants are participating so far, selling all of the cool, unique things you’ve come to expect from the Nutcracker Market.

If you’re a shopper or a merchant, you can request to join the Facebook page; your request should be approved in minutes.

So, while last year shopping had a lot to do with walking shoes, this year will be online. And hopefully, we’ll be impacting more lives because we’ll have unlimited space online.

  1. You can reinvest into Houston Ballet Foundation and co by donating your payment amount to Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market. 100% of the proceeds benefit Houston Ballet Foundation, its Academy, and scholarship programs.
  2. You can transfer the amount you paid to the Nutcracker Market 40th Anniversary, November 12-15, at NRG Center.
  3. Or you can request a full refund to the original form of payment.
