Although we’ve only just started the month of January, we’d like to bring your attention towards a February event you’ll want to mark your calendar for.
From February 16th through the 24th, the ReelAbilities Festival will be in full swing. This event is fueled by an important mission — to raise disability awareness and support within Houston communities.
This event is for everyone. With its purpose being awareness, the ReelAbilities team hopes to reach as many people as possible. What’s more, the festival is following a different format this year — one that may be more expansive than ever.
This year, the event will be completely virtual. Although this decision has roots in the COVID-19 pandemic, it also aligns with the event’s quest for inclusivity. This year, the ReelAbilities Festival has the ability to span across and beyond the local communities of Houston. What’s more, this new virtual event is open to all ages.
The eight-day event will be full of exciting and engaging activities. On the docket are 16 award-winning films, a UP Abilities speaker event, art presented by Celebration Company artists, and even a ReelMusic Concert. Each day will be full of things to do and see! Are you curious to see what’s in store? Its extensive schedule of events can be viewed on the ReelAbilities Houston website.
All events surrounding art, music, and film will be completely free to the public. This intentional choice is to involve, educate, and entertain as many people as possible.
Started in 2007 in New York City, ReelAbilities now reaches 17 cities and counting. The ReelAbilities Festival in Houston is made possible by the JFS Alexander Institute for Inclusion and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. In addition, the festival graciously accepts sponsorship from several donors.
