Amid growing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus, all Harris County (and unincorporated parts of the county) dine-in restaurant service as well as all bars and clubs are ordered to shut down for the next 15 days at least. The closings begin at 8 am on March 17th through the end of the month.
In order to keep operating, restaurants will be able to offer the following services only:
- Drive-thru/pick-up service–You’ll still be able to pick up food at local restaurants, but you will not be able to dine in.
- Delivery–You can order food to be delivered to your home if the restaurant has its own delivery service or via services like DoorDash, Uber Eats, Favor, and others.
While many jobs will undoubtedly be affected by this, Mayor Turner and Judge Lina Hidalgo both acknowledged that it wasn’t an easy decision but a necessary one to delay and limit the number of individuals exposed to the coronavirus.
Mayor Turner said, “If we don’t take definitive action now, all of us will pay a higher price down the road.”
