While there has been plenty of awful things to happen in 2020, one cool thing that’s taken place this year is the resurgence of drive-in theaters. The old school experience of seeing a movie outdoors from the comfort of your car was all but a thing of the past (the Houston area only had one drive-in theater in recent years, the Showboat in Hockley), but due to the nature of the ongoing pandemic, several drive-ins have popped up this year to provide moviegoers with a safer way to enjoy films on the big screen. And now, you can add yet another new drive-in theater to the list.

Just in time for the holidays, Rooftop Cinema Club is debuting its newest drive-in theater in EaDo, and to kick things off, the outdoor theater will be playing a stellar lineup of Christmas movies all month long.

Rooftop Cinema Club has already opened two other Houston-area drive-ins this year, one in Spring and one at Sawyer Yards, but the latter screened its final film on December 4. Now, the team behind the popular pop-up drive-in cinema hopes its EaDo location will build on the success and popularity of its Sawyer Yards venue.

“After searching high and low for a new drive-in home, we are thrilled to have landed at such a beautiful location where we can take the best of our Sawyer Yards venue and build upon it,” said Gerry Cottle, owner and founder of Rooftop Cinema Club. “We look forward to bringing more Love, Peace & Great Film to Houstonians in this much-needed time.”

The Drive-In at EaDo will provide guests with a totally contactless experience so they can safely enjoy movies in a socially distanced environment. Movies are screened on a giant 40-foot display facing the lot where cars are parked 10 feet apart, and guests can order food and drinks from on-site food trucks using their phone. Restrooms are available on site, but guests are asked to wear a mask any time they leave their vehicle.
