infinity racers schlitterbahn

As the weather heats up, you likely want to find ways to stay cool outdoors while keeping the whole family entertained. Schlitterbahn Galveston is among one of the top things to do in Houston on the weekend, and its newest record-breaking ride is getting quite the buzz.

Infinity Racers is the latest multi-million dollar water slide at Schlitterbahn Galveston and it’s anything but ordinary. To start, it’s the only eight-story, head-first mat slide in the world! The 75-foot set of slides (as long as two space stations!) are almost completely enclosed giving riders 696 feet of electrifying fun in a matter of seconds. The project built by Schlitterbahn and WhiteWater West boasts a rather large price tag, but once you take a ride, you will instantly see why.

As a tribute to NASA’s 50th anniversary of the lunar landing, the slide simulates space travel with multicolored fiberglass light beam effects that surround the rider as they twist and turn to the bottom.

“When [the park] learned that they were getting a new ride and it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, everyone began to brainstorm on how this ride could pay homage to that proud history. Given that it was already (conceived) as a thrill ride, we knew it fit as a space-themed ride,” said Winter Prosapio, Corporate Director of Communications & Government Relations for Schlitterbahn Waterparks & Resorts.

Climb an eight-story tower, a total of 19 stairs, to get in the Infinity Racers ride. Once you reach the top, choose from the Orbiter slide, featuring deep space blue rings of fiberglass at the start or, the Galaxy slide, which features pink fiberglass at takeoff to symbolize astronaut ice cream!

At the grand opening of the space-themed adventure, Schlitterbahn Galveston had a distinguished guest, U.S. Air Force Colonel Terry Virts, an astronaut and fighter pilot who lead numerous space flight missions.
