Nearly two weeks ago, Governor Abbott declared a state of disaster in Texas due to the coronavirus pandemic. While most people focused on the closing of schools and deployment of resources, here’s something that flew under the radar: the waiving of vehicle registration.
On March 16th, Texas.gov posted an update clarifying that a waiver of vehicle registration falls under the State of Disaster declaration. The declaration also provides waivers for renewal of parking placards for people with disabilities and titling.
“The State of Texas continues to implement a comprehensive plan to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and that includes strategies to reduce preventable in-person contact,” said Governor Abbott. “By suspending these rules, Texans can avoid unnecessary crowds and in-person contact without fear of being penalized.”
While temporary waivers have been granted, you can still renew online if you choose at renew.txdmv.gov.
