Planting a tree is one of those rare actions you can take to give a gift to the future. When you plant a tree seedling, you might not get to see the full-grown tree in your lifetime – but your grandchildren might. To help promote Arbor Day this year, Houston’s own Memorial City mall is giving away over 1,000 free tree seedlings to the community. Where will you plant yours?
On October 13, Houstonians can receive free tree seedlings at Memorial City Mall thanks to Memorial City in partnership with lawn management and landscape company LMC/Embark and the Arbor Day Foundation. The nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation was founded in 1972 and remains the largest nonprofit membership organization devoted to tree planting, conservation, and education. The Arbor Day Foundation’s mission is “to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees,” and they’re confident that this free tree seedling giveaway at Memorial City will work towards that goal.
The Arbor Day Foundation plants over 5 million trees in America’s forests each year while at the same time distributing approximately 7 million trees to its roughly 1 million members. The Arbor Day Foundation also operates 217 certified nature explore classrooms, a collaboration with the Dimensions Educational Research Foundation which teaches children the importance of nature through exposing them to the outdoors. These outdoor classrooms allow children to learn and play in nature and experience the full wonder of the great outdoors.
The free tree seedlings will be given out at The Lawn at Memorial City, located between Ciro’s and the new Hotel ZaZa Memorial City, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October, 13. You’d better get there early – the 1,150 tree seedlings will be given away on a first come, first serve basis.
