Halloween is over, which means only one thing: it’s time to unroll the Christmas lights, get used to Christmas music blaring from every store front, and dust off that Santa hat you keep in the attic. Holiday decorations and celebrations will be rolling out over the next few weeks to mark the start of the holiday season, and Houston has its own very special events planned. Chief among them is the Memorial City Lights Celebration, a free, family-friendly celebration to mark the lighting of the Memorial City Lights.
The Memorial City Lights Celebration is Houston’s largest holiday lights installation, featuring 3.5 million lights spread out across all 265 acres of Memorial City. On Saturday, November 10, the lights will turn on at sundown and will light up Memorial City throughout the entire holiday season.
To mark the lighting of this one-of-a-kind installation, the Memorial City Lights Celebration will host an evening of entertainment and live performances culminating in Santa Claus himself emerging from the Memorial City Mal Xfinity Fireplace to turn on the lights. The ceremony will feature special performances by the Memorial City Reindeer Drumline, the FLY Dance Company, and many more. The festivities will be emceed by Great Day Houston’s Deborah Duncan and KHOU-TV’s David Paul.
The event runs from 4:30 to 10:00 p.m. at The Square at Memorial City located on Memorial City Mall’s west side between The Cheesecake Factory and Maggiano’s Little Italy. The Memorial City Mall Xfinity Fireplace can be found on the mall’s west side between American Girl and Ice Skate Memorial City.
Don’t miss this exciting community event which is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face and welcome in the holidays with a celebration of some of the best parts of the season: lights, festivities, and family fun.
