The Society for the Performing Arts will soon unveil its brand-new production of The Sound of Music at Jones Hall here in Houston. If you’re unfamiliar with the beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family or even if you’re a diehard fan, this performance is one you won’t want to miss. The Sound of Music features a Tony, Grammy and Academy Award-winning Best Score, including songs which have made it into the great American songbook like “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss” and the title song “The Sound of Music.” The musical features musical compositions by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and is based on a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

Three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray) is directing the production, seeking to make this “not your mother’s version” by stripping away some of the kitschier elements in favor of modern touches. The cast, meanwhile, features some of the most exciting up-and-coming performers in musical theatre including Jill-Christine Wiley (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) as Maria Rainer, Mike McLean (Guys and Dolls) as Georg von Trapp, and a cast of talented, captivating child actors.

The Sound of Music will be in Houston only three days, opening Friday, June 1st and running through Sunday, June 3rd. There are five performances total: Friday, June 1st at 7:30; Saturday, June 2nd at 2:00 and 7:30; and Sunday, June 3rd at 1:00 and 6:30. Tickets are already in high demand and are expected to sell out. Tickets range from $34.00 to $129.00, depending on how close to the stage you prefer to sit.

Luckily, Goldstar events is hosting a promotion which offers up to 40% off discounts on The Sound of Music tickets. Don’t miss out on your chance to see a lively production of one of the most beloved musicals of our time.
