Now that we’re halfway through the month of December, the holidays are officially in full swing! There are many seasonal traditions and festivities worth attending in Houston during this time. With that being said, we urge you not to miss the Czech Holiday Market.
This one-of-a-kind annual event celebrates age-old Czech traditions surrounding the holidays. Whether you attend this event every year or are looking to switch up your holiday plans, this unique celebration promises tons of festive fun!
The Czech Holiday Market will take place on Dec 19th during the hours of 11 AM to 5 PM. The Czech Center Museum Houston will play host, inviting visitors to peruse through a wide assortment of artisanal gifts and treasures. Check out the Czech Market, and you’ll find hand-painted Christmas eggs, Czech crystals, children’s books, and other cultural favorites.
The market will also include a country store filled with Eastern European treats. Poppyseed rolls, egg noodles, canned pickles, and other made-from-scratch snacks will be available for purchase. You can take a break from shopping to grab a bite or take home some treats for later!
The Czech Advent tradition of Svatý Mikuláš will continue this year as well. The Czech Center Museum Houston will bring in Christmas cheer by inviting St. Nicholas, the and?l (angel), and the ?ert (devil) to the event. As families shop around, these colorful characters will be walking around in costume, interacting with children, and offering holiday-themed treats.
Admission to the Czech Holiday Market is completely free and open to all! If you’d like to attend, please register in advance through the Czech Center Museum Houston’s website. This precaution is to ensure proper social distancing guidelines. The Czech Holiday Market promises to deliver tidings of joy for all who attend!
