What: It’s sure to be a colorful weekend in Galveston because Mardi Gras is here! Get ready to enjoy over 20 parades, headliner performances, lots of beads, a world-breaking Umbrella parade, and so much more. You’ll also get to attend events such as Fiest Gras!, a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage, Salute to Texas – First Responders Day, Family Gras!, and so much more.
We’ll discuss some of the headliner events in further detail below.

Mardi Gras! Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade

What: Do you have a flare for decorating umbrellas? Then, get ready to join this iconic, Guinness World Record-breaking parade!
The winner of the 2023 Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade will be leading the parade and will be featured in The Bryan Museum’s Special Exhibition. If you didn’t get the spot, don’t worry. You can still participate in the parade and show off your beautiful umbrella designs. You simply have to register for free.
All parade participants here will receive free entry into the entertainment district through any of the designated gates. However, you must have your decorated umbrella to enter for free.
If you’re simply a watcher, get a good spot so you’ll be able to see the umbrella designs. This year will surely have plenty of interesting designs for you to watch out for.

Ties and Tennis Shoes 5k
What: Get your heart pumping for a good cause this weekend at the Ties and Tennis Shoes 5k! Their second annual race this Saturday will benefit The Josh Paul Foundation scholarship Fund and ongoing activities in PISD, CCISD, and BISD high schools. The scholarship is for upcoming graduates who have faced adversity and still wish to continue their education beyond high school. Registration ends on the day of the race at 9 am.
