Houston is big and we still have plenty of Mother Nature to explore!

Check out some of Houston’s best parks and park events! Discovery Green has ongoing, interactive art installations like the current exhibition, The Shape of Things by Michael Craig- Martin. You can also catch a live show or stop by on Saturday evenings to star-hunt with the Houston Astronomical Society. Levy Park hosts a monthly outdoor movie night and has weekly workouts as late at 7 pm!

The Miller Outdoor Theatre has performances all year long ranging from dance and theatre to outdoor movie screenings. Bring your own picnic, blankets, and booze- just no glass!

Scoot on out to City Centre for free live music every single week. For even more evening events, The Square at Memorial has something for everyone. Head out for Trivia Night, Game Night, and live sports on the big screen.

During the summer, the Houston Zoo offers extended hours on the weekends. It’s a great way to enjoy the animals after it’s cooled off a bit. At other times of year at the Zoo, there are evening events like Zoo Lights, Halloween events, and more.

For something completely different, head to your local airport and go plane spotting! Airports both large and small usually have a viewing area where you can park, picnic, and watch for those pretty flashing lights. Just make sure they’re open- most viewing areas close around 10 pm.



Some of Houston’s best museums host evening events on the regular. Head to the MFA for Happy Hour Thursdays. The museum closes at 9 pm but the Happy Hour begins at 5, complete with live music, a cash bar, and food trucks.  The Contemporary Arts Museum is always free and they host events every month! On College Night, they stay open until 8 pm and bring in a live DJ and light bites. You can attend modern dance performances and more.

MATCH is one of the city’s best-kept secrets and one of the coolest things to do in Houston at night. They offer classes and theater supporting local artists in Houston. Enjoy plays, dance, musicals, and concerts with tickets as low as $25.

Make a reservation at the Twilight Epiphany Skyspace at Rice University and prepare to observe nature in a whole new way. This art installation plays with the natural sunrise and sunset. Get there at least 10 minutes early. You can just walk up- it’s free!

Of course, going to the movies is always a great way to spend an evening, especially when you’re looking for a break from the heat. With Goldstar, you can get discounted movie tickets to Cinemark, AMC, and Regal Theatres.



Okay, so you can go to a concert but is it cheap? You can find local and national artists of all kinds of White Oak Music Hall, known as Texas’ best live music venue. Plus, tickets usually run $20 – $25 per person.

You can watch a live Astros game on the cheap by going when they are playing their less popular rivals. On Dollar Hot Dog Nights, hot dogs are $1 and tickets are just $9. One of the best ways to see Houston is on tour! Check out Mr. McKinney’s Bus Tour for a jaunty ride in an open-air bus. Mr. McKinney is a local Historian with a background in theater and gives a knowledgeable show. Meet in front of the Buffalo Bayou Cistern and make a donation of $20 per person.

Houston has laughs because we have some of the best comics in the nation! There are also tons of comedy clubs around which offer free and cheap shows, like the EaDo Comedy Show with dirt cheap tickets on Goldstar for $5. Late-night comedy at Station Theater can be as low as $4. Cutthroat Comedy has cheap drinks an no cover!
