The coming of Spring means events around Houston are heating up! There’s no shortage of awesome (and cheap or free!) things to do in Houston. Family Fun

Junior Scientists at Nature Discovery Center  
What: Kids aged 6-10 will engage with hands-on experiments and investigations, as well as lessons enriched with crafts, games, and more at the Nature Discovery Center.
Why: Explore the natural world and encourage the love of learning and science with the fun-filled, engaging Junior Scientists program. Enroll in classes for the semester or by the week.

Children’s Story Hour at Hermann Park
What: 
Every Friday morning, children gather around in the Family Garden for a storytelling event. Afterwards, they can participate in activities such as coloring pictures or learning how to plant seeds and take them home.
Why:
 The event takes place in the Family Garden, an interactive, edible garden allows children to experience the touch, scents, colors, and tastes of fresh vegetables and herbs.

March Market Madness at Hometown Hero’s Park 
What: A pet- and family-friendly market featuring a variety of vendors from Escape Room to nail wraps!
Why: Hit up the petting zoo and face painting for the kids then peruse the vendors for free samples and a showcase of local businesses.

Eat & Drink

21st Annual Irish Cook-off and Music Festival at Griff’s
What: Get an early start on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with 18 teams competing for the win and three bands performing live.
Why: With free entry, free tastings, and live music, this is one of the best things to do in Houston this week.

Work Out

Zumba at Midtown Park 
What: Join us in the park for a FREE Zumba class, an aerobics program inspired by various styles of Latin dance. This high-energy fitness class is set to upbeat Latin music and teaches choreographed moves to get the heart rate pumping and improve flexibility and fitness.
Why: Zumba combines all the elements of exercise- cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility- while emphasizing fun overall. If you’re into fitness, Zumba is one of the top things to do in Houston this week.

H.I.I.T. at Levy Park by The Preserve Gym 
What: Featured every Tuesday at Levy Park is High Intensity Interval Training  hosted by the Preserve Gym. Characterized by bursts of intense physical activity combined with short rests, H.I.I.T. is a great way to improve heart health. Mats are provided or you can bring your own.
Why: There’s no better place than to get your workout grind on than in one of the nation’s best urban parks. Cool down afterward by hitting the water features or taking a stroll on the promenade.

Tai Chi by the Reflecting Pool at the Rothko Chapel
What: With slow, meditative movements, Tai Chi is both relaxing and great exercise.

Kingwood Farmer’s Market at Town Center Park

Why: Support small businesses and shop local under the backdrop of picturesque Town Center Park. Street closures near the park allow for safer walking during events so find a parking space and head for the white tents!

Heights Comedy Showcase and Open Mic at Fitzgerald’s 
What: Join your local talent for an adults-only open mic and comedy show at the famed Fitzgerald’s. Recurring every Tuesday through August.
Why: Support local and get your comedy on with Danny Rios (Last Comic Standing, Funniest Person in Houston, 06) and Steven Kendrick (Van’s Warped Tour, SXSW).

Disney Princess Trivia at Under the Radar Brewery
