HSPVA Dance – Solstice sponsored by PNC Bank

This event is part of the Solstice series.

Dance students from Kinder High School for the Performing Arts will present a dance made particularly for Solstice. Students will collaborate with visiting choreographer Laura Gutierrez to produce a brand-new piece that responds to the location and the Solstice art installation.

The mirrored and LED arches that make up Solstice represent how Earth changes when the sun is closest to and farthest from the equator. In an exploratory and participatory manner, visitors will be able to experience the longest day of the year to the shortest.

Cistern Illuminated

The Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern is ready for the yearly illumination display known as Cistern Illuminated. The 221 columns of the Cistern will be illuminated by soft, warm lights in this new installation, which Kelly O’Brien of Fenris designed.

This will enhance the columns’ spooky reflection in the sparkling water below. Tone changes evoke the ambience of a flame flickering. Houstonians are welcome to escape the Christmas rush and take a fresh look at the Cistern’s otherworldly tranquility.
